While Albany’s Underground Railroad had many vital contributors, Stephen and Harriet Myers remained its steadfast leaders. Beginning in the early 1840s, they utilized personal resources and Stephen’s Northern Star Association, which published his newspaper. Their influence grew significantly, and by the 1850s, they had become Albany’s principal Underground Railroad agents. In this role, they ultimately assisted thousands of people in achieving their freedom. However, despite their vital contributions to humanity, Stephen and Harriet Myers were laid to rest without a marker; a historical omission that this event seeks to correct.
