Join us for a special lecture by Dr. Lawrence M. Berman presented in conjunction with the exhibition From the Hudson to the Nile: Dows Dunham and the Archaeology of Egypt and Sudan, on view November 8, 2025–May 3, 2026.
The pioneering Harvard University-Museum of Fine Arts Expedition during the first half of the twentieth century uncovered the riches of a great ancient civilization in northern Sudan. An integral part of the Expedition were specially trained Egyptian photographers who documented the excavations with thousands of images. These photographs bring to life the dramatic landscapes of the Nile Valley, the excitement of a great age of archaeological discovery, and the artistry of the photographers who recorded it all.
