Engaged in a process of artistic research into the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall as building, institution and “instrument” throughout its once-in-a-generation renovation, musician and multidisciplinary artist Adam Tinkle has been documenting the peeling away and re-layering of the historic building, while at the same time composing adventurous musical and documentary responses to the profound questions raised by the renovation process. Now, flipping the “ON” switch on its historic 188 Odell pipe organ for the first time since the hall’s reopening, the project turns towards an investigation the materiality and metaphors of airflow - the most fundamental of musical media - in an evening length premiere of new compositions for the “king of instruments” and assorted others.
