About

Chiefs Oscar “Hutch” Hutchinson and Edward “Cap” Conklin led the Lenox Fire Department for the first 71 years of its inception. Each brought common sense and ingenuity in equal measure to their role. Both were in military service: Hutch as Captain of the Massachusetts State Guard, and Cap as a WWII Lieutenant with a Purple Heart.

John Local History Librarian Amy Lafave at the Lenox Town Hall Auditorium as she tells the story of these two intrepid men. The calamitous fire of the morning of Easter Sunday 1909, which spurred the creation of the department, will also be discussed.
