Catherine Epstein, Henry Steele Commager Professor of History at Amherst College, focuses her scholarship, as well as her teaching, on topics related to German and Central European history. She is the author of four books and numerous articles and book chapters, including Model Nazi: Arthur Greiser and the Occupation of Western Poland (2010) and Nazi Germany: Confronting the Myths (2015). She currently is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Friends of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and of the Academic Committee of the United States Holocaust Memorial Council. From 2014 to 2024, she served as Amherst’s dean of the faculty, and then as provost and dean of the faculty.
Professor Epstein is currently working on a global history of reparations.
